Our Plan for 2026–2028.

A practical framework for conservation, access and organisational resilience.

The Merchant’s House is a unique part of Marlborough’s story: a place where original fabric, conservation practice and public experience meet.

The 2026–2028 plan focuses on caring for the building, strengthening the organisation and making more of the collections and stories accessible. It sets a clear direction while recognising that work on a complex historic house must remain responsive to new discoveries and conservation needs.

Three priorities

1. Conserve with confidence

Develop condition knowledge, sequence repairs responsibly and use appropriate specialist skills and materials.

2. Welcome more people

Improve the clarity of the visitor journey, grow educational use and create events that deepen understanding of the house and its period.

3. Build resilience

Strengthen fundraising, volunteering, partnerships, governance and earned income so the Trust can plan beyond immediate pressures.

Our ambition is not simply to keep the doors open, but to help the house reveal more of itself to every generation.

Progress will be shared through news updates, annual reporting and opportunities for supporters to see work in action.
