The aim is to make this website usable by as many people as possible, including people who use keyboards, screen readers, magnification or reduced-motion settings.
What has been built in
- Semantic landmarks, logical heading order and a skip link.
- Keyboard-operable navigation, menus, accordions, forms, dialogs and image viewing.
- Visible focus indicators, labelled controls and status announcements.
- Responsive layouts that support zoom and text resizing.
- Reduced-motion and forced-colour support.
- Alternative text for meaningful images and empty alternatives for decorative images.
Conformance target
The website has been designed and internally checked against WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Automated checks cannot identify every issue, so feedback from real users remains important.
Known limitations
Some historic photographs may benefit from richer descriptions. External donation, membership and payment services have their own accessibility characteristics. The Trust will work with providers and offer an assisted alternative where practical.
Access to the historic building
The house has uneven floors, changes of level, narrow openings, low thresholds and stairs. Contact the visitor team before travelling for current, tailored information. Assistance dogs are welcome.
